When you ride a bike there is always the chance of a puncture, even if you only ride on tarmac.
This can weigh heavily on your mind and spoil your enjoyment as the dreaded puncture problem lingers in your mind. But not any more, for two very good reasons. BAM! Is fitted to every bike on hire.
Firstly, all our hire bike tyres are regularly checked and inflated to the correct tyre pressure, they are the most puncture resistant tyres available and are filled with sealant.
Secondly, all the bikes carry a canister of BAM! A pressurised canister full of carbon dioxide and tyre sealant.
BAM! A product made by MUC-OFF in the U.K. will repair most punctures in road, hybrid, or mountain bike tyres. All you have to do in event of a very rare puncture is press the canister very had onto the opened tyre valve and await the tyre as it re-inflates. When the tyre is up to pressure maybe a minute for road bikes or a couple of minutes for large mountain bike tyre, just pull off the BAM! and close the valve if needed. BAM Your good to ride on with the puncture fixed and the tyre re-inflated.
However it does have its limits and Bam! is claimed to seal holes up to 6mm long, but it cannot help with large off road tyre slashes. I estimate it will seal 95% of punctures.
But punctures are very uncommon on our hire bikes especially on road or hybrid bikes which stick to the tarmac lanes.. only one puncture in 2025.
Off road riding , with all the extra perils associated with cycling over rock ground, is much harder on tyres, but even so there has only been 5 puncture in the 2025 bike rental year.
What’s the catch with this magic BAM!? You have to read the instructions on the Bam canister before sealing the puncture!
