What are Flagship Bikes?
Quite frankly they are the lightest, most responsive road frames coupled with the best components. Shimano Dura-ace and Ultegra electronic Di2 gears, Controltec, Shimano or Hed Carbon wheels and Continental tyres all add up to offer you the opportunity to experience the ultimate thrill of riding in the Lake District. Each bike is unique, offering the perfect fit for the majority of cyclists. Please see the individual bike specification page for in depth details of each individual bike, to choose the one to suit you.
There are four Trek Madone bikes with their carbon frames and the titanium framed Lynskey Helios OS completes the flagship range available for 2017.
Flagship bikes are supplied with a Garmin, heart rate belt and cadence sensor. All the Trek bikes are fitted with Trek Duo Trap and therefore are Ant+ and may be able to sync with your mobile phone apps.
Frame sizes to suit both women and men.
These top end Titanium Road Bikes are state-of-the-art and are fitted with the highest level of Campagnolo, Sram and Shimano gears.
Some have triple chain sets, some have compact chain sets, and all are ready to ride whatever the Lake District can offer you.
Garmin bike computers are available for hire or you can bring your own.
New Titanium Bike for the Hire Fleet for Men
An Airborne Zeppelin has joined my road bike hire fleet for 2016. This is the largest 58 framed bike available and will suit the tallest cyclists. This bike has a very high spec with carbon forks, stem and handlebars coupled with Bontrager race wheels, and is extremely light. Continental Grand Prix Four Seasons 25m have been mounted on the wheels to provide long lasting grip and added comfort. These tyres were recently top rated as the best all round tyre in the Cycling plus magazine and are the tyres of choice on my own bike. The gears on this bike are Shimano 105 with a compact front derailleur and a 10 speed 11-28 cassette. This offers an excellent range of gearing well suited to touring and the less steep climbs of the southern Lake District.
For cyclists attempting the tough rides, the other Titanium framed Zeppelin with a triple front derailleur will give a better option of climbing gears. The bikes have been professionally built by Dave at DC Cycles, Ulverston.
I bought my wife a Trek Madone 4.7 and she loves it! The bike is light and responsive with a good range of 22 gears. It is fitted with special saddles for ladies so you can ride all day in comfort as you glide through the lanes of the Lake District.
Most of these Trek bikes are fitted with a Duo Trap ANT+ Digital speed-cadence sensor which may be compatible with apps on your smartphone, and are compatible with Garmin devices which may be hired at additional cost.
The Ladies Trek 4.7 has been upgraded for 2016 with a complete new Shimano Ultegra 6800 groupset and new wheels. These new gears offer 22 options with a compact front mec and an 11-32 rear cassette. this is now a real climbing bike to tackle everything that the Lakeland hills throw at you, but is equally at home offering touring enjoyment. The new Mavic Open Pro wheels have been hand built by Hewitt Cycles, Leyland and are mounted with Continental Grand Prix Four Seasons 25m tyres for a free rolling, grippy, comfortable ride.
New for 2017!
Electric bikes offer additional power which allows a relatively unfit person to enjoy cycling with their family or friends.
We have a range of sizes to suit men, ladies and teenagers over the age of 14.
Try them… you'll love them!
We have road bikes for smaller teenagers, but taller boys and girls will be able to ride all the above bikes above, which are available in a range of frame sizes. Unfortunately the law states you have to be over 14 years of age to ride an E-bike 'on road'.
These leisure bikes with flat handle bars and easy gears are ideal for easy bike rides and taking in the views when cycling with younger or older family members.
*I offer a special weekly family package of 2 leisure bikes and two old used children's bikes.
These older bikes are fully serviceable and roadworthy but have been well used and are already scuffed so there is no stress in the children inevitably scratching the bikes. They can be included at a massive discount in a weekly family package.
Other new children's bikes have been added in 2017 best suited to 7-14 year olds. These bikes have 6 gear rear cassettes with twist gear changes on the handlebars. These bikes ride very well on the roads or for playing around your accommodation. They have a good range of seat adjustment to enable a quick set up to suit the size of the children.
These trailers, which attach to the rear of any of the hire bikes for towing, are ideal for carrying camping gear and baggage in. I can meet you at a local train station with a bike and trailer so you can set off immediately on your travels around the Lakes and Dales. And don't forget they are designed to carry young children!
