Max. 8 Riders… Group Adventure Guided Tours
Ride from Lowick Green, 2 miles south of Coniston Water and Grizedale Forest
This guided adventure on electric off road bikes is some of the most exhilarating, exciting, challenging and rewarding in the Lake District National Park. You will climb with the additional E-bike Bosch power and descend only with gravity, traveling longer and further to enjoy view and trails only usually available to the locals.
Wherever we ride the landscape is dominated by the Old Man of Coniston, almost a mountain but not quite and the inevitable glimpses of lakes, tarns and Morecambe Bay. Expect fast descents on rugged trails hewn from the hillside by Cumbria’s ancient Fell ponies, and forays into Grizedale Forest. Your lungs will be full of fresh Lakeland air, your heart pumping strongly with the purity of off road riding.
This holiday is all about FUN. The electric mountain bikes help to flatten the climbs leaving more physical and mental energy to enjoy the days riding, always leaving some reserves of energy left to enjoy the rest of the evening.
On an average day we will ride between 25-35 miles mixing in varied sections of terrain. Single tracks, forest fire roads, bridal paths, green roads, across grassy fields all day enjoying the tracks and trails and the incredible Lake District National Park’s varied landscape.

The Riding
This southern area of the Lake District offers fantastic off-road riding, often linked with tiny stretches of riding on the country lanes. As your fully qualified guide will be a local with years of guiding experience, they know the best trails to ensure fantastic riding with amazing views such as looking down onto Coniston Water from Parker Moor or overlooking Morecambe Bay from Ikenthwaite.
Each ride will be chosen for its overall quality in the firm belief that the E bikes are for riding. The inclusion of technical difficulty for its own sake, or too much pushing, walking and carryng have been avoided whenever possible. All are circular, with the direction chosen to provide the views, keeping the longest and steepest climbs on tarmac or similar hard surfaces and the best down hills off-road.
This off road riding will inevitably involve some rocky sections, loose gravel and rocks, roots, trees, mud, grass and long days in the saddle. There will be some technical sections and riders should have good bike handling skills and cycling fitness.
There are some inevitable steep quite long climbs which is where the E-bikes power assist kicks in. If you have not ridden an e-bike before , you will never have climbed hills so fast!
The E-Bikes: Full Suspension E-Bikes/Hard tail
These bikes are all powered by Bosch CX Motors tuned for maximum power output. Bikes are not included in the basic holiday price and need to be separately booked via this web site where full details and sizing are available. Full instruction will be given as to how best optimise the E-bikes power and dropper post.
You may bring your own E-bike for which you are solely responsible during this off road holiday.
Is this E-bike Holiday Suitablke for your Skills and Fitness?
You need to have off road riding ability over a variety of terrain, you need to have fitness to enjoy full days on a bike. There may be very short technical sections of steep rocks which can be walked if necessary. During the day there will be breaks for caffes, lunch and perhaps an end of day pub stop at the local Farmers Arms. “We did not know what to expect as we booked via email from the States. John met us at Oxenholme Station and took us to his home which was to be our base for 4 nights. The bikes were superb road bikes which John fitted to our size, one a titanium men’s bike and the other a ladies carbon bike. Wow, after riding mountain bikes on the road these bikes are really fast and comfy on the road.
We had 3 days touring with John in the South Lake District before setting out for 3 days in the Yorkshire Dales, self guided from supplied instructions and maps. It rained, the sun shone, we went up hills and down Dales, what terrific scenery everywhere.
The itinerary John had planned was perfect – not too hard and not too easy for a couple of relatively unfit Americans. We had dinner on farms and ate their home grown lamb, we ate out in the local pubs, and our bags were transported from place to place. Finally John came to collect us and our bags and we had a final ride and a calm sunny afternoon, around Coniston Water. What a perfect way to end a splendid weeks cycling in the Lakes.”
