After a flat tyre in our car meant I couldn’t bring my own road bike on holiday, I hired this bike from Lake District Bikes. After checking the spec on the website it was similar to my own. It actually turned out to be a little lighter and comfier than my bike. It was a perfect replacement and John ensured it was the ideal fit before I left. The bike is perfect for exploring the beautiful roads and lanes of the surrounding area, with enough gears to get up the steep climbs.

I found this bike great fun as I’m new to road cycling. Once I got used to the drop handle bars and use of the gears I was able to really enjoy the Lakeland lanes this area has to offer.John fitted the bike to me ,as Im 5ft 8 ins and I had a really comfy ride. The helmet I hired was a very good fit as John has a very good size range to choose from.

I have not ridden a bike with drop handlebars before so was a little apprehensive of taking on a fully fledged road bike. But what a revelation after John explained the three different positions to ride with your hands on the handlebars. I had the preconception that you had to ride on the drops all the time, but not so. We three girls had a great ride around the South Lake District on a really nice sunny day, riding about 60 kilometres. Now I’m so happy that I have experienced a proper road bike which was perfect for touring in this area of the Lake District.

We hired two Trek Madone road bikes from John, one for my wife and one for myself. Good road bikes for hire in the Lake District were not good to find.
John clearly has great pride in his bikes which are impeccably maintained.
With the route map John supplied we rode “Britains Best ride… the Lakeland loop”, and on our return were offered a shower and a brew before our departure to Edinburgh.
We drove North full of joy after a fantastic day in the Lake District,so very different to our home in Australia.
