On the various rides on the map supplied with the bike hire, lots of cafes and pubs are indicated. Here are two of the best always enjoyed by cyclists.
The Terrace Cafe, Brantwood
I challenge anyone to suggest a cafe with a more dramatic picturesque view. Overlooking Coniston Water, with the Old Man of Coniston towering over Coniston village, this is the perfect Lake District picture. Coupled with coffee freshly roasted in Coniston, an array of cakes and a delightful menu; this is the perfect place to stop after leaving our based in Lowick.
The route to this cafe follows the River Crake as it turns into Coniston Water as you head north. This quiet counry lane, is perfect for familes with children as the lake is accessible in many places along the shore line. The Terrace Cafe is only 8 miles from Lowick and a return round trip is easily achievable by most cyclists.
The Manor House, Oxen Park
For the more adventurous this can be the first stop of many as you wend your way around the Lake District, but a final stop must be The Manor House, Oxen Park. Open all day, every day, from 11am this is the perfect pub to almost end your ride, as it’s only a couple of miles back to Lowick. Sit out on their terrace, beer always tastes better after a ride! Stop for a late lunch from their extensive menu, or just call in for tea or coffee. Whatever your calling, the staff will always be very happy to accommodate you. The Manor House has consistently won competitions for the quality of their service and food. It’s where the locals eat.
