FAQs
Booking & availability
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, all bike hire must be pre-booked. Booking ahead is the best way to guarantee the bike type and size you want. E-bikes must be booked a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
Can I book for the same day?
Sometimes. If you need a bike today or tomorrow, contact us first and we’ll confirm what’s available. E-bikes cannot be guaranteed to be fully charged if not booked 24 hours in advance.
How do I book?
Via the website: Choose your bike type, select your dates, and complete the booking online. If you’re unsure what to book, get in touch and we’ll recommend the best option based on your height, experience, and planned route.
Can you help me choose the right bike?
Absolutely. All bikes are sized to the rider online. If you need help, tell us:
- your height (and inside leg if you know it)
- where you want to ride (road/off-road/mixed)
- experience level and fitness
…and we’ll recommend the best bike type and size.
Collection & delivery
All bikes must be collected from and returned to our hire base in Lowick Green unless other arrangements are made in advance.
Where are you based?
We’re based in the South Lakes (Lowick Green area). Your booking confirmation will include the exact collection details and any delivery arrangements.
Do you deliver bikes?
Yes. We offer delivery to many local areas (subject to availability and scheduling). If you’re staying nearby, ask and we’ll confirm options and costs.
What time can I collect or receive delivery?
Time windows depend on the day and route schedule. We’ll confirm timings with your booking via email.
Can I collect one day and return the next?
Yes. Multi-day hire is available. Select the correct dates when booking.
Bikes, sizes & setup
What sizes do you have?
We stock a range of sizes across bike types. All bikes are sized to the rider on the website. If you need help, please provide your height (and ideally inside leg), we’ll match you to the best size.
What’s included with hire?
Typically you’ll receive the bike set up for you plus essentials such as:
- basic setup/check before you ride
- guidance on route choice if needed (maps supplied)
- any included accessories noted at booking
If you need specific items (helmet, lock, child seat, trailer, panniers, etc.), check availability and add them when booking or ask us.
Do you provide helmets?
Helmets are often available (subject to stock). If you need one, request it when booking so we can reserve it.
Are your bikes maintained regularly?
Yes. Bikes are checked and maintained routinely so they’re ready for Lake District conditions.
E-bikes (electric bikes)
How far can an e-bike go on one charge?
Range depends heavily on rider weight, assistance level, terrain, wind, and temperature. As a rough guide, you’ll get less range on steep Lake District climbs and more on flatter terrain. We’ll help you plan a route that fits your battery.
Do I need experience to ride an e-bike?
Not usually. If you can ride a normal bike confidently, you can ride an e-bike. We’ll show you how the controls work before you set off.
Can I take an e-bike on off-road trails?
Some e-bikes are suitable for gravel/forest tracks; others are better for roads and easy paths. Tell us your route plans and we’ll match you to the right model.
Routes & riding
Can you recommend a route?
Yes. Tell us how far you want to ride, your experience level, and whether you want road or off-road, and we’ll recommend a route that suits you.
Are there family-friendly routes nearby?
Yes. There are great, scenic options suitable for families and casual riders. We can recommend routes with gentler gradients and good stopping points.
What should I bring?
For the Lakes we recommend:
- weatherproof jacket (conditions change quickly)
- water + snacks
- a small layer (even in summer)
- phone + charger/power bank
- sunglasses/sunscreen in brighter months
What happens if the weather is bad?
The Lake District can be changeable. If conditions are unsafe (high winds, storms), contact us — we’ll help you reschedule where possible.
Kids & group bookings
Do you have bikes for children?
Yes, subject to availability. Share the child’s height and age so we can recommend the right size.
Do you offer child seats or trailers?
Often yes (subject to stock). Request these in advance so we can reserve them.
Can you cater for groups?
Yes. Please book early for groups and tell us the number of riders, heights, and bike types required.
Guided rides, tours & holidays
Do you offer guided rides?
Yes. We offer guided options (road and/or off-road). It’s a great way to ride the best routes safely and confidently.
What skill level are guided rides suitable for?
We can usually tailor routes to different abilities. Tell us your experience and fitness and we’ll advise what’s suitable.
Do your cycling holidays include bike hire?
This depends on the holiday package. Check the trip details or ask us and we’ll confirm what’s included.
Payments, deposits, changes & cancellations
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Booking and payment terms depend on the hire type and dates. You’ll see the exact terms during booking.
Can I change my booking dates?
Usually no, subject to availability. Contact us as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to move your booking.
What is your cancellation policy?
Policies vary by product/season. Please refer to the terms shown at checkout/booking, or contact us if you’re unsure.
Safety, damage & breakdowns
What happens if I have a mechanical problem during my hire?
Contact us as soon as you can. We’ll advise the best next step and try to get you rolling again quickly.
What if the bike is damaged or stolen?
You’re responsible for reasonable care of the bike during your hire. If something happens, let us know immediately. Any charges depend on the situation and the booking terms.
